Faiths of the Wasteland

 Way of the Axe

The Axe Tribes are the primary followers of this faith. A mix of shamanism, Christian, Ojibwe, Odinist, and elements of popular folklore, the Way has a strong belief that spiritual discoveries can be made through observation. It teaches respect for spirits, but among all is the great Paulbun, a giant who wielded a great axe and was accompanied by his giant blue warcow.

Old Faith

Most that follow any faith at all, follow a hodgepodge of older religions. Commonly it involves offering quiet, individual prayers to the great god. Strong followers believe that a deal is a deal, hurting only those that have hurt you, and going to the good place once you’re dead if you’ve led a kind life.

The Chosen

Taking fragmented ideas from the precious few that could read oldspeak, this is a minor, but fervent faith in the wasteland. Followers believe they have been chosen to thrive and inherit the land. Those that were unclean were killed in the great war, or suffered the great plagues of mutations. They follow strict rules of behavior seeing anything taken in excess as a sin. In reality they piously wield judgment over people that experience the simple joys in life. It is their belief they will rule over the wicked and unclean, amassing great riches that they will carry on in the afterlife.

The Green Goddess

Popular among simians, her towering image is among expansive ruins on the east coast of the continent. The gowned figure, reaching upwards with her left arm, is a symbol that she is mother to all. Simians showing her reverence means acknowledging her power over nature and the gift of new life.

Glowing Atom

Popular among some Freaks and those few with severe mutations, these sparse followers believe in the cleansing power of radiation. Sites that have been “nuked” are coveted and attempts should be made yearly to undertake pilgrimages to lands heavily bombed in the war. Those that have mutations are considered blessed by the Glowing Atom. More fervent followers believe in spreading the power of rads and think their kind will inherit the earth once all are touched by the fireless heat.
